: What's a more competitive and fun to drive AutoX car, an E30 M3 or an early 80's 911SC. I'm considering both as my next car (primaritly autoX and weekend trips, no commuting). ((Snip)) I'm also wide open to suggestions for other cars as well (my price range is ($10,000-$18000). Thanks, Brad

As for suggestions for other cars, you can
buy and prep an E30 325is instead and be money
ahead. It can be made to handle just about as
well as an M3, and when chipped can be just
about as powerful. The 325is is not quite as
exotic of course, but it's a workhorse that's
easy and relatively inexpensive to maintain
compared to an M3. Afterall, the only real
difference is the engine and body panels no?
It's smooth and quiet on the highway, and with
not much more than stiff springs, shocks, larger
swaybars, and dedicated autocross wheels with
race tires it rips on the autocross course :-)
