: You know reading Ritter's post made me think. Now I know most M drivers (M6 and E30 M3 drivers especially) love their cars almost more than anything and they bought them for a purpose other than looking good. But does driving a Motorsport car make someone think differently? Let me make an example- my friend recently purchased a Saleen S281. It is a really nice car, powerful, good handling, but to be honest I am not really impressed by it. I would never trade my car for it. Not only that, but its pedigree is not up to the E30 M3s- the most successful car in BMW's racing history. It seems like driving an M car has spoiled me. Every car I drive is judged against my 89 M3. Rarely do I find a car better than the one I own. This is normal right? My other friend has a 96 M3. This is a damn nice car too, but not as good as the E30 in the fun-to-drive factor. Anyway I was just wondering what other people thought about the Motorsport experience.

I understand fully what you are both saying, owning an M3 is like owning no other car, even Ferraris have respect for you I know because one passed me the other day and as he did he slowed right down and waved at me and gave me an approving grin! Now what other car 12 years old would make somebody do that? You also know that BMW spent an awful lot of Deuchmarks developing this car to win races and it makes the average driver think he or she can too! I'm in also the same frame of mind as yourselves I really don't know what to replace my M3 with when it eventually kicks the bucket. I love driving it despite it being noisy, left and drive, I live in Scotland, and exspensive to maintain. Sod it I'm off for a drive........see ya.
