I replace the aux fan switch which seems to have fixed it. However, it still mostly runs mid way between 1/2 and 3/4 but does not pass 3/4 now that the aux fan is activated. I guess this is "normal".

In the process I removed and flushed the radiator, removed and tested the thermostat, and drained/replaced the coolant.
