: I started my 91 M3 the other day and heard a strange noise that appeared to be coming from the transmission. When I tried to put the car in gear it was quite difficult. The noise went away when I let the clutch out in neutral but then came back when I pushed it in again. I did this a few time, putting the car in gear and letting the clutch out in neutral and it eventually went away. I didn't let the car move until the noise was gone. This has me worried. IF anyone has any ideas as to what it may be please let me know.

is it a squeeling noise or a growling sound?
if it is a squeel it is probably your throw out bearing. if it is the bearing, the part is cheap but the labor to remove the transmission and re-install it is not.
I would have the fluid level checked in your gear box ASAP if it is a growling noise.
You should filter the oil when you drain it, so you can examine for metal shavings. I don't know if our cars have a magnet drain plug or not.
Good luck,
Troy
