Due to boredom and having just paid $2.16/gallon(!) for premium I decided to see what kind of mileage I could get when I really tried hard to be good. I came up with 25.8 mpg. Thats about 5 mpg better than my normal. This was over two 40 minute trips to work. The route is 22 miles, 10 of which is rural 2 lane highway, the balance being main city streets with average # of stoplights. To do it I short shifted, never taking it above 4 grand and stayed in fifth as much as possible. When I could see that I was going to get caught by a light, knew a stop was coming up, or had a steep enough hill I popped it in neutral and coasted. It was kind of like a TSD rally, except instead of watching the time, I was watching the MPG gauge. Oh, almost forgot the most important part. It was frickin' BORING! Geo Metro's were dusting me I was driving so relaxed. Hard to be conservative in a car that just begs to be flogged. Oh well, looks like I better budget more for gas=)
