: Should I switch to an electric fan running off an on/off switch from the interior rather than a fan belt driven fan? The fan is shot on the recently purchased 85 318i. The engine isn't in great shape either. My uncle is a mechanic and recommended an electric fan, rather than belt driven. What do you guys think?

: 90 M3 (rebuilding engine)
: 99 Subaru Impreza (getting rid of it, anybody wanna buy?)
: 85 318i (just bought it for $1,500 w/ 175k mi)

The Euro M3s that had no A/C came w/o an engine driven fan.

If the 318i has A/C I would remove it (get the condenser out of the way), install a lower temperature switch for the auxiliary fan and go ahead and remove the engine driven fan. If the car has A/C you should already have an electric fan.
