In Reply to: Ellipsoids... What are they?? posted by Jeff Becker on June 09, 2000 at 17:28:33:

: Well, time to return my crate to original specifications as far as the lighting is concerned. I have an '88 which the literature tells me came from the factory with "ellipsoid" headlights. When I bought it it had one Hella replaceable bulb lens (not a black dot) and three sealed beams. Most early ///M3 cars in literature have lights with a black dot at the center. Are these ellipsoids? I am assuming that they implement replaceable halogen bulb? What is the dead nuts original set-up for this correct look and where can I find NEW parts? Part numbers would be helpful. Thankyaverymuch. - Jeff

That sounds like an unusual combination sealed beams & ellipsoids. They are different in the they mount & also the bulb replacements... Ellipsoids have a replaceable halogen bulb- rather than a complete sealed beam.. They came standard on the 88/89's (mine were upgraded:)

Hope This Helps...
