While we didn't change or check these (other than to note that the filter was so clean it looked new),

I doubt that a bad pump or clogged filter could have maintained the 43-45psi we noted at 5000+rpm.

As the volume demand of teh engine overwhelmed the systems ability to produce it, the pressure would have begun to drop off, which it didn't.
