As with any BMW, if you maintain it, it will last. I have been driving old paid-for BMWs for the last nine years and have only been stranded twice: once for alternator, once for fuel pump. Repairs I have made: Unexpected alternator rebuild at 103k miles (E30///M3), main fuel pump(733i but at 190+k miles), air conditioning drier and recharge (every BMW I've ever owned), control arms (every BMW I've ever owned), repairs of PO hack alarm/stereo/phone installations (every BMW I've ever owned), snapped oil pan bolt (733i from too many overtorques by PO quicky lubes). Vacuum leaks (every BMW I've ever owned - but easy to find and fix). Clutch master and slave cylinders (535is, 733i, soon on the ///M3 - typical BMW weak points - check with Metric Mechanic for the updated higher durability parts), brake light switch (every BMW I've ever owned - check with Ultimate Garage for updated higher durability part), Head gaskets (733i, Bavaria with inferior pre-'82 castings - KEEP THE COOLANT BLEED OF AIR!!) Guten Luck, - Jeff
