You should replace with a new cable. The cable is most likely getting tired and stretching.

In addition, it is a good idea to install:
#..Throttle cable fix - 2 X BMW Pt.# 35401165393. This is a $ 1.50 part that is worth while. It will insure that the cable does not pull away from the jacket or stick due to cable rub. I have had the cable stick prior to replacing my throttle cables and other less fortunate individuals have experiences this on the track with expensive consequences!

: The throttle cable on my 88 m3 needs adjusting, but the threaded adjuster on top of the air collector is at maximum extension already. is there another way to adjust or shorten the cable, or do i just need to buy a new one?
