: I am in the process of looking to buy a 95 M3. my plans are to put a turbocharged S14 (E30M3) engine in the car. I know this might sound a bit crazy but I like to be unique and love 4cyl's. What I would like to know is how easy would the swap be? I know ESE has done S50 in E30 swaps so I'm sure it isn't too difficult. I am concerned about the sump clearance with the cross member as the engine will sit just behind the axle line of the car. Does anyone have any experience with something like this. Obviously the M42 engine (318) worked fine. Thanks for any help.

Most people put newer engines into cars not older ones, hence the ESE (S50US) transplant. You might not find anyone who's ever done this, certainly not on this board. :-)

If I were you, I'd find a way to get a hold of a Euro E36 M3 engine (S50) and do that instead. It'll be faster than a turbo S14. Good luck though. I've heard of one E36 with an S14 transplant but that was before the E36 M3 was released for production. I think Johny Cecotto was testing the new chassis but with the old motor installed.
