The S14 engine does consume oil on a regular basis depending on how you drive. The "M supplimental owners manuel" says to check oil levels at each fuel fill up and add as needed. As long as you're not smoking I wouldn't be too concerned. I usually add one quart in 3000 miles.


Would anyone out there know whether my 89M3 that I just bought 3 months ago is burning oil excessively. I had the oil changed just after I bought the car and 4000km (2400 miles) later, it is down 2.5 litre or quarts of oil. My experience with BMW's (have had 4) suggest that this is excessive but I have never dealt with a high performance motor before. A friend of mine in the engine rebuild business said high performance engines often use 1 litre of oil per 1000km. What is your experience?
