You don't have to disconnect the battery but I would do it to be on the safe side. It takes 20 seconds and it could save your car's brain. Also, be careful when separating the 2 mother boards. The 2 prongs gave me some trouble.......try not to bend the chip prongs....other than that you should be fine. Oh yeah, don't touch the tv if you have the unit in your hand.
