My shifter has recently started shaking when I get my
car up to speed. I guess the most obvious diagnosis
would be the need to replace tranny mounts. But I had a
mechanic look over my car when I bought it about a year ago and he suggested that the car would soon need a new
"selector shaft seal" I assume this is at the shifter but am not sure and the mechanic is no longer available. Could this be the cause of the excessive shaking, has anyone on this board ever had to replace such a seal? Any and all help appreciated, Thanks..

The shaft shaft seal leaks transmission fluid over time, same with the output shaft seal, that's why it is recommended to replace both while upgrading to a shortshifter.

To get rid of the buzzing and shifter slop at the same time, consider a short shift upgrade. www.uucmotorwerks.com has all the info and part numbers necessary. Sometimes the buzzing is caused by the shift knob itself, other times it is because the tension bushing is worn or has disintegrated. The tension bushing is a little piece of foam that fits inside a knuckle which are part of the shifter assembly. Check out the UUC site for more info.
