In Reply to: Shifter shaking at speed.... posted by Doug on July 31, 2000 at 11:07:22:

I had the same problem, especially accelerating in third gear. It looked almost obscene. This was occuring both before and after I installed a UUC short shifter with ERK. So, last weekend, I got ahold of new shifter bushings and a replacement tension bushing. The old shifter bushings looked fine but the tension bushing had turned into jello. It had liquified. I replaced it and the shifter bushings and the shifter is now rock solid.

My shifter has recently started shaking when I get my
car up to speed. I guess the most obvious diagnosis
would be the need to replace tranny mounts. But I had a
mechanic look over my car when I bought it about a year ago and he suggested that the car would soon need a new
"selector shaft seal" I assume this is at the shifter but am not sure and the mechanic is no longer available. Could this be the cause of the excessive shaking, has anyone on this board ever had to replace such a seal? Any and all help appreciated, Thanks..
