Cons:cost--sure 18" wheels and tires cost more than 15"-17" but if that is what you want(and can afford) don't settle for less. Harsh ride--true, however, the upside is increased cornering ability, traction...increased weight--not always. I have an E36 M3 and the stock wheels are 23#'s and the BBS RC's that will replace them are 18#'s (according to tirerack)so right there I dropped 20#'s of rotating mass from the car. I belive that this translates into INCREASED acceleration and a suspension that will work a little easier. Reduced tire selection??? Check out and find someone who DOESN'T offer an 18" tire. Reduced performance--covered that one already. Rubbing or fender damage--no comment. Wheel damage--no more so than with any other size.

note, 16" was an option for the e30m3 with 225r45x16 and they would not rub with a stock suspension. Therefore, 18's will be plus 2's..

Lets look at the pros & cons of a +2 (+3 for most e30 m3 that came with 15" bbs's).
Pros: Looks really cool, bragging rights... etc
Cons: cost, harsh ride, increased weight, reduced tire selection, reduced performance, rubbing, wheel-arc damage, rim dings... etc.

People do track e30m3's with 18" (and larger)tires, but they are running larger arch quarters (extended) with more HP, larger wheels and different diff gearing to take advantage of the extra rubber.

I would like to run 18" wheels what are the pros and cons of doing this? I posted this before with no help. Any ideas.

Josh Austin
