15" and 18" tire and wheel setups of the same overall diameter and weight are not a wash in their effect on performance. The 18" wheel concentrates its weight further from the wheel center causing the engine and brakes to overcome more inertia to do their jobs. While they do look great, the only real performance reason I can think of for adding 18" wheels would be to make room for monster brakes. But then, spinning those heavy rotors without equally huge HP would once again wipe out the gains.
