On Board Computer LCD failing (archive)

Just recently my on board computer LCD has dimmed out on me. The computer is still working (I can still see number durning the day at certain angles/light intensities) but it is no longer lighting up to its normal intensity. Has anyone had this problem. Could it be a power problem (wouldn't think so if the unit is still computing)? Is is possible to replace the LCD or do I need to replace the whole computer? Anyone know how much this should cost me? Would really like to get it fixed since fuel gauge will occasionally jump to full even when the tank is not full, so the computer was my way of telling gas level. Not good. Thanks in advance for any help,
