Big brakes are one reason to upgrade wheel size as pointed out earlier... As far as performance is concerned there are several schools and fantasies of thought. Mine is: +1 or +2 etc. assist with handling issues, but offer little if anything as far as more tire on the road. I have seen +3 combinations as well as +2 and +1 which do nothing for overall performance. The increase in handling is offset by the inability of the S-14 to turn them fast enough. After manyu years spent at the track with many many M3s I am aware or NO ONE with +whatever going any faster, per lap time, with +2 or +3. There appears to be a marginal difference at +1. recently I was wrestling with this same issue and opted for 4 sets of K1s (Kosei). The K1s are very wide and have worked out well in testing. If you want to upgrade wheel size for performance consider adding torque under the hood to turn them... Good luck1 Cheers!
