Anyone rebuilt a power steering pump? Is it difficult for an experienced shade-tree mechanic? Is this best left to the professionals?

My pump pulley is slowly starting to get gunk on it, and the underside of my airbox shows a bit of oil/dirt accumulating. It is obviously from the pump.

Anyone have any tips or things I can do "while I'm in there"?

Thanks a bunch

I recently just replaced the p/s pump. Just a question; is it worth your time to rebuild the unit rather than just replacing it with a rebuilt one?

Any rate here is what I learned.

Need to remove the air box to gain access the mounting bolts from above.

Need to remove the bottom plastic valance/ground effects panel that is under the car.

Make sure you have a puller; to remove the pulley. I was lucky, mine was able to be pulled off with my hand and a screw driver.

Replace the belt while you are replacing the unit.

Buy the proper ATF fluid and bleed the system when you are complete with the job.

Good luck
