On high mileage cars you need to be concerned with subframe mounts, intake gaskets, waterpump etc. However, there is a great fix for the tensioner problems, a non-hydraulic tensioner from the v-12 engine; I am having this done tomorrow.
With all that said, the E-30 M3 is such a blast to drive and it feels faster in some ways than the E-36. It has an exclusive engine and, while expensive to maintain, very robust and will last forever. The car was meant for the track and feels right at home on a twisty road. The sound alone makes a high end stereo system seem rather trivial. It's an enthusiasts car, period.
The E36 M3 is a VERY NICE production car and that is the single major difference between the two.
Good luck and hope you find a keeper!
In case you haven't notice, I'm selling my '95 M3, and am looking for an E30 M3 for the change.
My friend who own an '88 M3 says I'm crazy.
Maybe he's right...
anybody else want to give their opinions??
