The s14 motor runs at around 75-80 degrees water temp so why BMW fitted a 91 degree switch I don't know. What I do know is that my cooling fan now cuts on a just over the half way mark on the temp guage instead of past the 3/4 mark and yes my switch was working properly. Also if an engine is working at the lower end of if tempature range it is working more efficiently due to a range of things one being lower oil temp. If the oil is working at it's upper limits most of the time it will break down quicker and give less protection against wear.
