E30 is the body style of the 3 series from 84(i think) to 91. While the 36 is the 3 series from 92-99. The E46 is the newest body style from 99-on. As far as the differences between them, its too long to list. If you're looking fora 95-99 M3 then you want an e36. Go to the e36 M3 board and they'll help you out with that.
If you want an e30 M3(our personal favorite) than ask here. They were sold as 88-91 model years. They are very different from the e36 M3.
The e46 M3 isnt even sold yet(or at least delivered).

Whats an E30, E34, E46? Which years are better than others. What mechanical issues should I watch out for. Any really good mechanics for M's in Atlanta. I want to know this car inside and out before I buy it. Where do I start????
