According to the all-to-brief conversation that I had with him... the e36 transmissions fit the S14 engine (and the M20 too).
that means the 6-speed from an e36 will fit. does the 6-speed from the 5-series fit? i dunno. wish i'd asked.
bekker's or zionsville might know the answer to that question.
So where do you get a 6-speed from an E36 in the US? The E36 guys recommend against the 6-spd, especially the turbocharged folks, apparently the 5-spd is more robust.
I'm not sure if you're also aware, there's a large difference in weight between a 4 spd (reason the 2002's are wonderful, light weight) and a VERY heavy Getrag 265 5-spd. Try lifting one vs the other, very noticeable.
Fits an M20 also huh? I'd LOVE to have a smooth 6 speed tranny for my new tuned M20 motor. Post what you find out about finding E36 6 speed trannies and their cost.
Meanwhile I'll give Pete a call and see what he says.
