After many tiring attempts to locate a small leak on my '88M3 i bought the pep boys interdynamics conversion kit for about $35 i think. i installed the new high and low connectors and evacuated any remaining R12 (nothing there, it leaked out) then i charged it with R134a and the special oil. It worked great, not as chilly as R12 but plenty cool for PA summers. Finally my pinhole leak made itslef known as the one hose that runs near the framerail burst and r134 blew out. With that now known i got two new hoses for there and recharged again. No problems to date 14 months and counting.

Has anybody converted their a/c system from R14 to R134a??

Was it expensive??
Did you notice any difference??

Where did you buy the parts??

TIA
