Wider tires shouldn't effect acceleration. Taller(as in 18" diameter) does make a difference as it makes the final dirve gear ratio taller. Giving more top end but taking away from low end.

Also I've read that the M3 was made to accept up to 10 inch wide wheels on the DTM versions. I dont think you need to run anything bigger than a 17"X8" rim. Maybe 17X9 with some fender mods. Thats just what I think and what i've read.
