I want to keep the stock radio and use a portable CD player in the Car (Since My Bilstien Shocks are rock hard!) that has around 50 second skip protection. Also I want to preserve the styling of the Car! I am on a budget, so I am looking to upgrade my speakers and if possible get an 4 channel amp. Is it possible to extract the original speakers out of the housing of the rear speakers so that I can upgrade just the cones? Or possibly a unit that can replace it without having to butcher my rear dash? Maybe I could even add a sub-woofer in the trunk that would be velcroed to the floor?

One simple way that I am using is to find a Crutchfield catalog.

They have a speaker matrix inside listing speakers sizes and locations. I suppose you could also to their website as well. With this information, you can take some of the guess work out of replacing the speaker. A friend of mine has use Boston Acoutics in his car, but the installer didn't do too well with the tweeters in the stock location.

There have others disussing speaker and stereo mods on this page, maybe you can find archived materials somewhere or get in touch with the webmaster.

Take care.
