I know alot of people run their cars soundly up to 7800 (w/ Turner chip). I have also heard that people get chips with 8200 rev limiter and have been fine with it. The bottom end of the enigne is safe to 10000 rpm which is what the race cars ran at.

I run my 90 M3 with to 8000rpm with an Autothority chip and synthetic oil and with over 80,000 miles have never had a problem. If you want your car to rev faster, gap your plugs to 28 thousands and run 100 octane racing unleaded gas. In fact my license plate reads "8000RPM."
