I am just in the throws of acquiring a 1990 2.5 Sport Evo and wanted to know whether I could, should fit a set of BBS 17" or If poss I would like to go for he DTM look and fit 18"s. What sizes will fit and what offsets should I go for ?

PS any advise on tyre choices ?

Problem with 18" is not really diameter but weight. They weight a lot more than a 16" unless you get very expensive ones. That increases unsprung weight which is never a good thing. If it is just for looks get what you want, but I think 18" is a bit much for an E30 M3 on the street.

91 M5
18" BBS RC's-lighter than stock :-)
