85 lbs of torque is plenty. Are you sure that your lug bolts (or lugs nuts if you have studs) seat properly in your wheels? If the bolts are seated properly, you should never have a problem. However, if they don't seat properly it really doesn't matter how tight you torque them, they will work loose.

My friend put some 325i wheels on his 2002 using his 2002 lug nuts, they didn't seat properly and he lost his front wheel on the freeway. Amazing that he didn't total his car then (a thunderstorm and a tree branch totalled it later :-( ).

I put them on last tuesday. I tourqued them down to 85 pounds, should I have gone tighter? I found the 15mm H&R spacer on the road, the lip was completly gone, I don't know if this was the reason for the wheel coming off or not.

Oh yeah, I'm also going to need ONE 15mm spacer since this one is ruined, anybody got just one?

I'm also going to need to re tap at least 3 threads
I feel your pain...Good thing you were going slow. Who tightened your wheels recently?
95 CBR600

what do you mean "seat properly?" The rims are 98 M Contour II's on my 88M3 with 15mm H&R spacers and longer bolts. I've never heard of them not seating properly, but I don't know what that means.

Also when the wheel came loose, the brake rotor and caliper smashed against the rim makeing some abrasions on the inside of the rim, nothing bad, just mainly took off the paint. Should the rim be re balanced?
