That wandering idle could be a fried transistor inside the DME. It was caused by a bad idle control valve (ICV). Yes the computer is expensive, the idle control valve ain't cheap either ~$100. The computer you should look for used and in perfect condition of course. Replace both (at the same time) but first do test for a leaky intake as suggested above.
