Same thing happened to me a little while ago, Eric. Sorry I didn't suggest that might be the problem!

had our local BMW chapter meeting tonight, and I talked to one of the mechanics that was attending. he showed me a couple of possible items that can come loose that could be possible causes.

went home and imediatley started working on the car. turns out that the vacum hose at the front of the air plenium was just chillin off it's designated position. put it back on. car started and missed violently. with the extreme movement of the engine shaking it fell back off again and died. Viola, found problem

So I put some goop on it and stuck it back on. started her back up and it ran, but idled low (550rpm) also sounded like some nock was comming from the number 3 or 4 cylender. took off the plugs to examine. there was raw gasaline all over the #1 and 4 plug. used a lighter to burn the excessive gas off and put the plugs back on.

started her up again and this time it ran much smoother but still a little low. pulled the throttle open to about 2,000rpm for a minute, them when I let it back down to idle it ran as smooth as ever.

So of course my buddy Dustin and I had to take it out for a "test" drive. got on the local freeway and after the engine temp was up, dropped the car down to 4th and floored it. came to the conclusion that the car was fixed at 100+! I don't take the car up that high very much (3rd time since I bought it 1 1/2 years ago) but man it's fun to go fast!

when I got home, I put the chip right back in, and hopefully the cam gear and valve cover paint will happen in the next two weeks:)
Eric
