try using some 800 to 1000 grit wet and dry emerycloth/sandpaper, or some 000/0000 steel wool. coat with a thin film of oil or grease to seal it. the white spots are aluminium oxide (rust for alum.). Use a sanding block, or staple the sandpaper to a small flat wooden block and then use left to right strokes only to follow the machining marks made by the factory.

It is cosmoline and there have been some posts about this problem. I have heard that there is actually cosmoline remover but I don't know for sure, or what it is called. Does anyone know what this product is? Also, my "M Power" on the valve cover is a little corroded. It has rough white spots on it. Any ideas?

I remember reading that when these cars left the factory the engines were sprayed with some chemical that served as a protectant. This protectant was suposed to be removed by the dealer when the car was preped for delivery. But on many of the cars they either were not removed properly or not at all.
I notice that my car that I just purchased has a valve cover with the motorsport letters yellowed. I have tried removing it and I have had partial results. I used a quarter to chip at the yellow film on the letters and followed that by some metal polish. There still is some yellowing left in tight corners.
I am wondering if any one else has tried removing this film with good results. What method is the best to clean these valve covers.

Thanks alot
Steven
