I think the west coast has both Pro-7 and Spec-7 classes which race with a fairly full schedule. If your budget is really tight this might represent a more enjoyable class - i.e. you won't be paranoid about one mishap or missed downshift shift putting you into a situation where you can't afford a body or engine rebuild and which effectively boots you out of racing. Good used RX& racers can be had for $4-7K, pick-a-parts are full of donor cars, and rebuilt, balanced, ready to race engines can be had for well under $2K.

I'm looking at an E30 M3 or 325 for club racing as well but unless the race car can do double duty as a weekend street car and replace our E28 my wife tells me I can't afford it. So if I have to add one vehicle to the garage and have a dedicated race car then the RX7 may better fit the "bill".

(ignore the previous post, don't know what happened)

I'm looking for thoughts/insight on building an E30 M3 to run in J-stock/prepared or an E36 M3 to run in I-stock/prepared. A friend is running in JS and from poking through the archives it sounds like there is reasonable competition in JS but I'm not sure in what region.

I guess I'm hoping for feedback on the preferred choice of car (E30 vs. E36) and then competition in class, ideally on the West Coast.
