I work as a tech(apprentice) at a BMW dealer and have spent about $2500 in less than a year on parts alone and still have issue's to address, such as rebuilding the engine, trans, replacing the shock absorbers and catalyst, just to name a few. I have done the following things:
two water pumps
timing chain tensioner
aluminum control arm's and offset bushings
e46 17" sport package wheels
evo111 shift knob and boot
spark plugs
air filter
dinan chip
attempted to repair a broken exhaust stud in cylinder head but decided after removing the header that I should wait until I do the engine rebuild rather than attempting to drill the stud and damaging the head. It was broken off at the number 4 cylinder but it is a tight fit, I needed a right angle drill and a lot of luck.

repaired the light in the obc
eibach strutt tower brace
Dinan chip
trans mounts
M roadster shift lever and UUC bushings
and lot's of nickle and dime parts.

I just wish BMW had put a six cylinder in the car. I had a 95 M3 but after seeing 10-20 of them come in for service every day, it got real old looking at them.
I don't recomend the 17" wheels if you live in a city with bumpy roads, it is kind of hard on the car, even with the stock springs and shocks. It even slows the car down, I noticed a difference in the handling also. It feels like you have to turn the steering wheel further to make the car turn in. Which also slows your reaction time for correcting any oversteer. I can deal with it for now, but I think I want to go with a 16" wheel until the car goes into storage for sunny day's only.
