Well guys, when I am wrong, I'll admit it.

Its looking more and more to me like depite all parts info and various books that I have ever seen or read that the 234S2 engines may be (is) some variation of the E2 engine if not just a catalysed version as DarrenM posted.
Which could explain why the later 215 hp cars had a different 091 Motronic, which could be for the catalysed version of the E2.

The 234S2 engine was found in the Cecottos / Ravaglias, 1500 or so cars built at the end of the production run and some cabrios.

The "real" E2 engine is coded 234S1 and was installed in the 501 E2 cars and 1 special cabrio which had no catalyst and carried the "090" Motronic.

Our "normal" 195/200 hp engine is coded 234EA, which was the engine that most all of us have, and carried the "071" Motronic.

But,,, at the end of the run there were those 1500-ish standard road cars which are shown to have the 234S2 engine.

Hopefully Adrian will keep us posted as he dissasembles his engine.

I do not know if any of these cars made it to the States but it would be a real find if any did.
Cheers
jimmy P
