while cleaning the snow off my car from the snowstorm here in NY, the engine was idling and all of a sudden this sound which sounds like air coming out of the engine started..Then the engine started to stumble and nasty fumes started coming out of the exhaust. Sounds like cam chain, I wouldn't run it.....

Actually, did the fumes come from the engine bay ?

Could well be broken ehaust studs, try using a mirror and looking at the bolts holding the headers on (4 per cylinder). This would be far more a desirable problem, still a pain but not nearly as much as a cam chain.
