After you type in the vin and zip, your right it checks it for free, but it doesn't share any INFO! It gives you a number of possible positive or negative issues. The issues could be anything, they could even be all positive. But you always have to pay! Sh*t, I don't want to know that there's a potential, I want facts! The Freakin thing could say: 3 owners, or 2 owners and 1 emission failure. Or it could say that the car has a rebuilt title. Who knows? Carfax is so f*cked up, it runs out in 2 months. And don't tell me that's long enough, Searching for a good older car takes time. It took me 8 months.
Please kill "the Carfax is free" propoganda! It's $20 for 2 months, and $15 a search afterwards, for the rest of our lives. Or if you have 6 credit cards and 6 e-mail addresses, then thats another story.
This post is not directed towards anyone, but is intended to clarify the misleading info on Carfax.com.
