Although I don't know where the hidden VIN's are I have a suggestion. Here in California, when you register a used vehicle you must provide a VIN verification certificate done either by DMV or the police. (They don't want people registering stolen cars.) Before I bought my E30 M3 I ran a Carfax check and also contacted the Highway Patrol and had them check to see if the VIN's matched up. You may want to inquire with your local law enforcement agency to see if they can check your VIN. Explain to them that you are looking to buy a usd car but the VIN plates look suspicious. There is a national database of information. My check went all the way back to point of importation and first registration including the dealer name in New York! Maybe your local cops would be willing to do an inspection for you as you might have to have them do it anyway if you buy the car.Another idea is to propose to the seller that you want to take it to the police for VIN verification as a condition of the sale and see what the seller's reaction is. That might be more telling than the inspection.
Good luck.

I am looking in to buying a E30 body style M3, but the vin. #'s look like they have been messed with. So this car could be possibly stollen. Any help about where the hidden Vin. #'s, or any other advise would help greatly.
