There may be nothing to worry about. A few months ago the chief mechanic at the local BMW dealership gave our local BMW car club a presentation about pre-purchase inspections. One of the tests they do is a compression test. He said that the compression test value wasn't too important because the gauges weren't very accurate to begin with, and if they've been shaken or dropped sometime, they're really not going to be accurate in exact value.

What he said was important though, was that the compression be relatively even between the cylinders. I think he said that you didn't want the compression to vary by more than 10% between cylinders or else it could be an idication that something was wrong.
