Get to know some local club racers and go to a few of their events...be their "pit b*tch" ;). No, seriously, help them out and see how it all works out. You'll see that J-Stock is one of the more competitive classes, all this requires is an E30 M3 with a roll cage and tweeked suspension. To do J-stock people say you're looking to spend $20,000 (this is including the car). You can buy an E30 for $10,000 and would have to put another 10 into it (suspension, cage, and maintenance). Of course if you buy a cherry E30 for $15,000 it *shouldn't* need much maintenance at the time so you could just concentrate on the cage and suspension. My suggestion in buying an E30, high mileage is fine, make sure it has never been hit. My mechanic/friend bought a high mileage E30 for J-Stock and is still running at 197,000 miles. Run it until it blows. This is when you think about building a stroker to go into I-prepared or D-Modified. Save money and go into J-Stock. This is what i intended to do until my motor blew a month after getting the car...now i'm looking at I-Prepared.

I was just at Laguna Seca this weekened when I had the honor of watching a LA Chapter J-Stock hold off a TCKline E46 Speedvision Touring car for a few laps. Eventually the TCKline car passed him, but the JS was RIGHT on his butt for the remainder of the race. Not bad for a 12 year old car that still has the radio, air conditioning, and luxurious leather interior. Hehehe.
