Unsuccessful tie rod removal.... (archive)

I finally gave up trying to remove my old tie rods....it was impossible to unbend the lock tabs. I was able to get the lower tabs but the upper ones were obstructed and I couldn't get enough leverage. Here is the problem, though. I was installing the old ones back on but the nut that holds the tie rod to the strut would not tighten. the actual bolt on the tie rod would spin. I was able to get the bolt on tight enough to where the bolt protrudes far enough into the nut to where it is flush. Would it be safe to drive like this far enough to get it to the mechanic?

Thanks
