Use a gas analyzer to sniff the air in your
coolant reservoir. Presence of CO2 indicates
a head gasket leak or cracked head allowing
exhaust gasses into the cooling system.

The analyzer is basically a $75 home chemistry kit, a tube with a couple of chambers into which you pour some chemical fluid. The fluid changes color when exposed to CO2.
