There are very few visible differences between the 88 and 90 models. 91s were just left over 90s and are identical.

Differences are:
88 had ellipsoid headlights
90 had sealed beams

88 3-spoke steering wheel
90 airbag steering wheel

88 opening rear quarter window (so you can see the dot for the latch)
90 rear quarter window doesn't open

The other differences that aren't readily visible are:

90 had later Evo airbox
90 had aluminum control arms
90 had heated seats (This may have been an option but I don't think I have ever seen an 88 with them)

That's all, I believe.

So, as you can see, you don't really need side-by-side pictures of them. Just know that the ellipsoid headlights are the ones with the small spherical centers, that the airbag steering wheel has a big rectangular middle rather than 3 narrow spokes, and that the opening 88 side windows have little latches on them.

Also, I think the 89s were the same as the 88s but may have gained the evo airbox and/or the aluminum control arms somewhere during the model year.

Can anyone post pics of these car beside each other and
tell me the differences from year to year.
Also, is there anywhere you can find a review of the 88 M3
from 1988. Like a Road and Track circa 88
