Come to think of it - you've got a point, the guides on a S14 head would be no different to that on any other engine (in principle).
Why are the oversize stem valves listed/used? If new guides are fitted and then reamed - surely one could ream to an exact size? 16 valves (of the 1st oversize or even normal) are a shit load of money - I would expect having the guides replaced to be cheaper.
Any thoughts?
Hardly anybody besides BMW actually uses the oversize stem valves, they issued a service bulletin on the valve guides a long time ago on why they would be using the ovresize valves instead of new guides, but I forget the details on it. Basically, you can't get valve guides for any BMW through the dealers, but they're easily available on the aftermarket. And it is much less expensive to do guides at about $20.00 (including installation) per valve than to replace the valves at $50-60 per valve.
