225/50/16 are too tall for an E30 (archive)

They are a fitment for a 5 or 6 serie, or the newer E36/46 3 serie.

225 x .45= 101,25mm sidewall
225 x .50= 125.5mm sidewall

A difference of around 25mm on each side of the rim.

So, the wrong setting (225.50.16) is 2 inches too tall.

Because of limited availability of R compounds, racers use such a tall size for racing though...
