Certain engines require certain maintenance procedures. Most people would suggest renewing the timing chain assembling 'around' the 100K mile mark because a significant problem here can cause very expensive damage.

All engines require regular 'care' such as regular and correct oil changes. For example a few years ago Mobil ran an E30 for 1,000,000 miles (yes! One Million) on Mobil 1 ....when dismantled the engine showed no significant wear.A publicity stunt yes but the total number of miles still makes a point.
arent they supposed to last ?
