I've only been pulled over twice (speeding and expired reg. sticker). I've never had a problem with noise. I have just heard that some places actually measuree the level.

OT: Why do they let those Harley guys get away with NO MUFFLER all the time. The other day, I was driving with my window open and some Harley guy came zooming by and almost made me deaf. It was so loud, I forgot to shift. I snapped out of it and I was bouncing off the rev-limiter. If there had been a car in front of me, I'm sure I would have crashed right into it. My left ear was ringing the whole day.

I always thought of exhaust noise level laws as nuisance laws but this was a good case for the safety side of it.

Highway Patrol would probably see the tips as a reason to pull you over. I have seen some loud cars with no exhaust exit visible pass right by cops. However a little cat-back with obnoxious looking tip will get the attention of a policeman. This is my opinion.
