Unless racing is all you´re after I see no advantage in replacing the cat with some pipe. The european pre cat M3s where rated 200 hp while the cat versions have 195.. Note enough difference to feel or worth the potential troubles with the police. Doing that here in Germany will get you into DEEP trouble.
Just my opinion....

I hear alot of talk about replacing a stock cat with an aftermarket resonator such a the Supersprint or Ansa ones. My question is- is there an advantage to going with these over whatever BMW used on the non-cat. M3s? Has anyone purchased a factory resonator lately - price? weight? If any of us here in the U.S. ordered one we'd have to have it shipped from Germany probably, but it might be worth the trouble? BTW, I know that the stock cat. has a small "resonator" towards the rear of the section that is basically a small muffler (before the muffler). Are all resonators just straight perforated pipes surrounded by insulation, a "quieter straight pipe"? Thanks for all comments...
