They will overheat if you stay idling for long enough. I dont think the stock radiator and thermostat can flow enough water. However, if you keep the heater blowing out hot air on a decent speed this will keep it cooler. Just open the windows if it gets too hot inside 8-)/

Sounds to me like your temp switch is buggered or at least a wire or two have come off. Mine is currently not working either but I`ve got an overridge switch on the dash so I can switch the fan on to the fast setting manually 8-). Must get that sorted out soon though.

The temp switch is a troublesome part.........


rookie question, e30 M3s are famous for ripping out the aux. fan sensor on the themostat housing, repair the wires with extra length and the fan will work. You may want to upgrade to a 318ti temp. sensor which will turn your fan on earlier. Anyway, you should not have the temp. going pass 3/4 if you have a healthy cooling system even without the emergency fan since the thermostate will completely open and circulate enough coolant thru. You may want to look @ the radiaotr or thermostat and see if they are functioning properly.

My temperature gauge will go past the 3/4 mark and even further if I let the e30 M3 idle for a long period. I have read that the auxillary fan is suppose to start up at some point (3/4 level). Is this true? Also, just to make sure, the auxillary fan is the fan in front (not behind) the radiator? If the auxillary fan does not come on when temperature gets to a certain level but works when AC is put on, where would the problem be? If it is the auxillary fan relay then where is that located? I have checked the fuses and they are all working. If the auxillary relay is the small box attached to the cover for the auxillary fan then do you have to splice wires when you replace it?
